Alwan NFR Dongle Usage Policy
For profiles and curves limitation
We hope that you are keeping well and busy.
We have received recently many questions regarding the new limitation in the number of APS curves and Hydra profiles that Alwan applications can generate with 2022 NFR dongle. We thought that clarification is due.
NFR Dongle Policy
NFR dongles are delivered to Alwan partners to allow them to test and demonstrate and sell our software solutions.
NFR dongle license is free of any limitation, all Alwan applications and all Alwan applications options are activated on this dongle for a period of 1 year.
However, a recent investigation showed that in some cases, NFR dongles were used to generate curves and profiles that were initially intended for testing purposes, but ended up being used in production by some customers.
As you can understand, this is not a fair situation for Alwan as its R&D efforts end up being given away with no or little ROI, which you do not accept, and which we can not accept.
Therefore, we would like to remind you of the Intellectual Property (IP) Policy of the International Color Consortium (ICC) that Alwan supported and endorsed:
Hydra profiles generated by Alwan applications can be used in production by:
A- End-user having a valid license agreement from Alwan:
For this, end-users should purchase Hydra profiling software (ACH or ATB), Hydra profiles can be used in any part and with any device of the licensee production workflow.
PS: You can continue providing your profiling services and delivering Hydra profiles to Alwan licensee without any issue or limitation.
B- End-user having a valid license agreement from profile provider:
Profile provider can be an OEM with a specific license from Alwan allowing them to sell or to provide profiling services.
This policy applies by extension to all digital files generated by an application for the purpose of color managing an output device such as Tone Reproduction Curve Adjustment (TRCA) files:
Alwan’s TRCA files can be used in production by:
A- End-user having a valid license agreement from Alwan:
for this, end-user should purchase TRCA generation software (APS or ATB), TRCA files can be used in any part and with any device of licensees’ production workflow.
PS: You can continue providing your press calibration services and delivering TRCA files to Alwan licensee without any issue or limitation.
B- End-user having a valid license agreement from TRCA file provider:
TRCA file provider can be an OEM with a specific license from Alwan allowing them to sell or to provide TRCA file services.
How Can I get more Hydra Profiles or TRCA files for my NFR dongle?
